Having retained the Senanayaka Memorial Shield at the 135th Battle of the Blues Encounter, which saw the season coming to a close, the 2014/2015 Cricket season commenced on the 28th of September 2014, at the College grounds, where Royal took on St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala, which resulted in a comprehensive victory, with the Captain, Harith Samarasinghe leading from the front with an exceptional performance.

Royal, for their first innings, were all out for 168 runs, With Naveen Nimesh scoring 35 runs and Thiran Dhanapala and Harith Samarasinghe both scoring 35 runs each. In reply, St,. Annes College were bundled out for 76 runs, in what was an aggressive bowling attack, with skipper Harith Samarasinghe bagging 5 wickets and Lasith Embuldeniya with 3 wickets. The pitch seemed perfect for spinners as the Royal spinners were able to work wonders with the ball, which in turn lead to restricting St. Anne’s College.

Royal College,going on to face the bowling attack for a second time, already with a decent lead, managed to put up 136 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, before declaring and putting out St. Anne’s College to bat. Geeshath Panditharathne displayed a notable batting performance with a score of 54, and was supported by Randev Pathirana who scored 40 runs.

The bowling attack was once again lead by the Captain, Harith Samarsinghe, as he managed to bag 6 wickets, and Lasith Embuldeniya taking 3 wickets, which resulted in St. Anne’s College being bundled out for 146 runs, which saw Royal starting off the season with a comprehensive victory of 82 runs!

With a confidence boosting win starting the season off for Royal, the road to retaining the shield starts, and an action packed cricket season is expected, as it’s that time of the year again!
