The Royal – Mahinda Football Encounter for the Albert Edirisinghe Trophy, having been revived after a considerable span of 10 years, saw Royal College Dominating in both legs of the game, both home and away, to take home the trophy with an ultimate aggregate score of 3-0.

The away game, which was the first leg, was held at the Mahinda College Grounds on the 12th of October 2014, where the Royal team were gifted with an opportunity to get ahead in the form of a penalty, with Center Back Chathura Avishka belting the ball into the net, leaving no chance for the goalkeeper. Skipper and Striker Haritha Gajanayake was next to make his mark on the score sheet, as he was able to score and make the score 2-0 before the close of the first leg in Galle.

Having already obtained a 2 goal advantage, the Royalists faced the second leg with confidence, which was held at the Royal College Sports Complex on the 23rd of October. The evenly matched game was knocked off balance when Royal was once again awarded a penalty, where Center Back Chathura Avishka made no mistake and scored, which was the final nail on the coffin in terms of the way the encounter was swinging.

The quality in which Football skills and tactics were displayed by both teams were worth witnessing first hand, as Royal now prepare for the Royal – Thomian Football Encounter, on the back of a confidence boosting win.
