It’s a beautiful sight at the College Main grounds with colourful tents of all houses erected along the sides. The teachers as well as numerous parents are gathering around the eloquently decorated pavilion. The much awaited afternoon finally started with the hoisting of flags as the national anthem and college anthem were sung by the large crowd gathered there in unison.

The events for the afternoon started off as usual with the athletes from each house battling out for victory as they exhibited some unparalleled talent and skill at their events. Indeed numerous stunning performances by the athletes of all five houses were seen during the course of the day.

The teacher’s race and tug of war that managed to grasp the interest of all students must be specially noted. This was followed by the most colourful and creative event of the athletics meet, the drill display. It was indeed a vibrant show as over 100 junior students in blue and gold performed alongside their seniors who displayed some fine skill in acrobatics.

Soon afterwards it was time for the march past. Led by the College Head Prefect, A T Aluwihare and Athletics Captain, Chamika Karunaratne the march past was yet again a display of adept coordination and glamour as the large number of students from each house marched together in rhythm.

Finally it was time for the award ceremony for the evening. The Chief Guest for the event, Dr Hiran Wimalaratne delivered a valuable address with many references to his life at College that was equally motivating and informative.

The Athletics Meet came to an end with Marsh House being crowned as the overall champions. The event was followed by an after-party featuring a stunning show of fireworks and some ecstatic music that gave all the athletes the much needed entertainment after a strenuous period.
