The 2nd Club Regatta of the season is the Southwest Monsoon Regatta, which took place at the Colombo Rowing Club in the warm afternoon of the 13th of June.

The Southwest Monsoon Regattas’ calling is answered by not only schools such as Royal College, S. Thomas’ College, Ladies College, etc. but also by rowing teams from Universities such as the University of Moratuwa and the University of Colombo. This particular Regatta is of great prominence to the Rowing Crews calendar as this is a fine event for the true testing of ones mettle. The Men’s Category consist of the Centenary Oar, Open Double Sculls, Stubb’s Quaich Pairs, RCYC Pairs and Wardrop Sculls.

The Royal Team for the Centenary Oar Praveen Hapugalle at the Bow, Prathap Perera, Amrith Fernando and Sajidh Ajmal at the Stroke and Revata Karunasundara at the Cox. Royal College snatched the victory at the Centenary Oar. This victory was very momentous due to the fact that the Centenary Oar was won by Royal College after 4 years of frustrating close-calls.

The Open Double Sculls was attended by Promod Rajaguru and Hashen Hettigoda. Victory was achieved by Royal College here as well. The Stubb’s Quaich Pairs had Amrith Fernando and Prathap Perera from Royal College with Hashen Hettigoda participating in the Wardrop Sculls.

Royal College, very impressively won all events, with an exception of the RCYC Pairs where luck was against Royal but nevertheless Royal stood undaunted.
