Hiran Karunarathne and Chamath Wickramarathna to compete at the qualifying round for the IBO 2016 – Hanoi, Vietnam

Royal College is renowned as an institution which produces the very best from every arena from academics to extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. The 21st of December saw yet another group of talented Royalists being awarded for their achievements at the Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad organized by the Institute of Biology, Sri Lanka.The awarding ceremony took place at the Mahaweli Centre Auditorium, Colombo 07.

The examination to select the winners took place on the 28th of June this year at six different centres across the island. The candidates were required to sit for two hour paper with 40 MCQ questions and 20 short answer questions. The examination was mainly based on the G C E Advanced Level Biology curriculum (excluding Applied Biology Unit) and also included questions on the current developments and the applications of Biology.

Hiran Anjana Karunaratne, a student who faced the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination this year, well known for academic excellence at College, was ranked 1st amongst all other candidates at the competition.

Furthermore Hiran Karunaratne and Chamath Lavinda Wickramarathna will compete against seven other candidates to be selected to the Sri Lankan contingent of four that will take part in the 27th International Biology Olympiad – 2016 to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam. They will undergo a special training programme conducted by the University of Sri Jayewardnepura, University of Colombo and Universiy of Kelaniya.
