On the 12th November 2016, the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium was about to bear witness to an extraordinary spectacle. Months and months of hard work, commitment, sacrifices and sleepless nights were finally about to pay off and take the centre stage at the ‘show of shows’, Saga X.

The event saw it’s commencement with the arrival of the Members of the Parliament, and other special dignitaries for the evening accompanied by the Principal and members of staff. Since it’s inception in the year 2004, SaGa has featured some of the best talent from Royal and performances by some of the most renowned artists in the country

The orchestra took centre stage with the starting fusion. No one expected the maestro himself, Mr. Ashoka Pushpakumara to deliver a jaw dropping violin performance. With him the boys showed off what the audience was to expect from SaGa X.

Before going any further everybody took a moment of their time to respect the memory of the legend, Pandith W. D. Amaradeva, who himself was a part of SaGa a few years back.

First up it was the youngsters of the primary section who stepped up on stage to showcase their talents with a beautifully orchestrated song and dance item. Their performance served as an indicator of the amount of talent that Royal is to p. Following them was one of the six artists who were invited to make this evening even more special, Mr. Keerthi Pasqual who took us back in time with the blistering sound of his voice.

In the midst of this musical spectacle an eminent artist, Mr. Rohana Weerasinghe, was honoured for the services that he rendered to the music industry. At the same time Mr. Ashoka Pushpakumara and the past secretaries of the SDS who toiled to make SaGa a success story for the past twelve years were also recognized on stage.

The evening however was far from over. The singers, dancers and various other performers from both Royal and invited schools made sure they left their mark at the grandest stage of them all. The boys and girls did what they could to their fullest potential and it was evident that the audience at the Sugathadasa Stadium, a full house, enjoyed every second.

Performances by Umaria Sinhawansa, Lahiru Perera, Sanuka Wickramasinghe, Nelu Adhikari, Rookantha Gunathilaka made sure everyone both young and old alike got an unparalleled experience that only an event like SaGa can offer.

Time flew unnoticed and like all good things the tenth edition of SaGa, the musical legend of East and West came to an end with the hopes of meeting its wonderful audience yet again in the years to come.
