The Interact Club of Royal College in affiliation with the interact club of British School in Colombo organized “Ascendio”, a two phased community service project. The first phase was a futsal competition. Futsal, is a variant of football played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It can be considered a version of five a side football. This phase was named as “FOOTLOOSE” and was held on the 2nd of April 2017 at the CR&FC futsal grounds from 8.00am to 6.00pm. Up to 40 teams from many schools such as Royal College, British School in Colombo, Zahira College, Gateway College, OSC, St.Thomas college, Visakha Vidyalaya, etc… took part in this event.

The tournament began after the Co-Chairmans of the joint organizing Committee, Hashen Hettigoda of Royal college and Aritta Padmaperuma of The British School in Colombo briefing about the tournament rules to the captains of all teams. 4 teams competed for the women’s trophy & 36 teams competed for the men’s trophy. The teams faced each other in a knockout tournament & the finals were played between Wesley College & Zahira College for the Men’s trophy whereas Visakha Vidyalaya faced off against British school in Colombo for the women’s trophy. Finally Zahira College & British School in Colombo emerged victorious after two very exciting finals. The Teacher in Charge of the Interact Club of Royal College Mrs. Inosha De Silva gave away the prize for the winner in the mens category while Mr. Majid Cader the Rotary Advisor gave away the prizes for the winners in the women’s category.

The main goal of the first phase was to raise funds. Furthermore we hoped to create strong relationships between schools through sport and to help them enjoy the game through fair play. All generated profits of the first phase will be used to aid the less fortunate through the second phase of this project, which is a corporate social responsibility initiative of the two Interact Clubs to build and develop the community.
