Royal College emerged victorious on Saturday the 29th against rivals S.Thomas’ College to regain the Michael Gunaratne Trophy. With Saturdays victory the tally stands at 29 victories to Royal and 19 victories to S. Thomas’ with 5 draws

Shortly after kick off center Janidu Dilsban scored for Royal and Shakir Nawfer managed a successful conversion bringing the score 7-0 in favour of Royal. Shortly afterwards S.Thomas’ bridged the gap with a try and conversion evening the scores.

Not long after, Sabith Feroze penetrated the Thomian defense and Royal scored for the second time but Shakir missed the conversion extending the lead to a commanding 12-7 at that stage. S. Thomas’ fought back and scored for the second time, ending the first half of play with a two point lead with the score board reading 14-12.

Royal College saw an excellent second half where they dominated play scoring three tries and conceding none. S. Feroze, R. Fernando and Y. Rashmika scored while Shakir brought in the extra points.

S. Thomas’ College failed to mount a sufficient counterattack amidst the smoothly functioning lineouts and maul, and at the end of the day saw Royal winning the Michael Gunaratne Trophy with a final score of 31-14.
