Abstract -Happily ever after
A festival of fun, games and rides for under- privileged children organized jointly by the Interact Clubs of Royal College and Bishop’s College was held on the 17th of June 2017 from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30. p.m for the 17th consecutive year. The aim of this project was to inculcate leadership and teamwork in all the participants whilst ensuring that each child is given a truly unique and enjoyable experience.
The day’s proceedings started off when the members took off to the specific orphanages to collect the children. The morning session included a fully sponsored tour at the Water World Aquarium and Bird Park at Kelaniya. This entertaining and educational tour was packed with a few surprises as the under-privileged children got to witness a live feeding show, walk under the one and only underwater tunnel in Sri Lanka and to feed and touch a different array of fish species.
The afternoon session was held at Navarangahala and Royal College Junior Grounds. Firstly, an introductory video was shown to the children and then they were engaged in a variety of handmade carnival games where they competed with each other to win prizes. The evening session was a concert that was held at the Royal College MAS Arena.
The concert started off with interactive performances by Jerome and Watalappang followed by an inspirational and a motivational speech by Mr. Rangana Herath, the Captain of the Sri Lanka Test Cricket Team. Afterwards a magic show was performed by the Sri Lankan Magic Circle. It is after that the concert took its’ turn with a few surprise performances by the some of Sri Lanka’s most famous and renowned artists such as Randhir and Bathiya and Santhush which triggered all the under-privileged children and interactors to get up on their feet and to have a memorable experience. Their performance was the highlight of the day. The days proceeding ended off after the distribution of gift boxes.
