Royal College being an institution in which 48 Clubs and Societies are functioning, no doubt there is an immense pressure on all the members and office bearers of the respective student organisations to ensure that all activities are carried out smoothly and professionally in the right Royal manner. A fortnight ago, the Prefects Council hinted at the top office bearers of each club that a very special individual would be coming to have a discussion with them. All the Chairmen, Secretaries and Treasurers were indeed curious as to who will be coming to talk to them and when.

Last week, they heard that a special workshop and meeting was to be held for the top three officers of each society. On Tuesday the 25th of July 2017, the students converged at the Royal College Union Skills Center, where they saw the words “Excellence in Action”, projected onto a screen, and it also projected the name of that special individual who would talk to them.
The event was graced by the presence of the Principal of Royal College Mr. B.A. Abeyrathna, Senior Games Master Mr. M.A.M. Riyaz, Secretary of the Royal College Union Mr. Athula Munasinghe and the Manager Mr. Prabhath Gamalathge, the Prefects and last but most definitely not least, the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker, a distinguished old boy of Royal College who currently functions as the Chairman of Brandix Lanka, Mr. Priyan Fernando.
After a few words of welcome from Mr. Abeyrathna and Mr. Munasinghe, Mr. Priyan Fernando took over. The lecture on personality development delivered by Mr. Fernando was unquestionably on point. Taking examples from real life scenarios and relating his own experiences, he made sure that the students were kept engaged and received something new to add to the long list of life experiences that they gained at Royal. He mainly stressed on the importance of time management, prioritising, planning ahead and mutual respect, skills which will make a huge impact on your life in school and in the society. He even found time to answer whatever questions that they had, whether it be regarding activity organisation, financing and motivation.

This lecture was indeed a memorable one as the office bearers were given advice and important life skills from a former Royalist, who has once stood in their shoes himself, helping to carry on the Royal legacy for many years to come.
