Speak out 2014, organized by the the Gavel Club of Royal College, in collaboration with the English Literary Society of Ladies’ College, is an annual inter-school oratorical competition in which over 25 schools and 400 individuals participate, where an opportunity is provided for all participants to be exposed in the fields of prepared speech, impromptu speech and news reading.

A comprehensive workshop was also facilitated for all participants, so as to make sure that the event was more than a mere competition, where the participants could be exposed to and could learn, with regards to the content of the competition.The Preliminary round of the competition was held on the 21st of June, while the Semi Finals and Finals were held on the 22nd and 29th of June respectively.

The awarding ceremony which concluded the competition, was held on the 2nd of July, with Mrs. Neluka Silva gracing the occasion as the chief guest for the evening. All participants received certificates with the winners of each category receiving medals as well, after which, the invited parents and competitors witnessed the winner of the under 19 prepared speech category deliver her winning speech.
