The Major General T.I. Weerathunga RWP RSP Challenge Trophy, which was won by Royal College in the year 2008, was successfully recovered by the Royal College Cadet Band after a lapse of 6 years, at the All – Island Western Cadet Band Competition which was concluded on the 22nd of September 2014, at the Rantambe National Cadet Corps Training Center.

The camp which commenced on the 12th of September 2014, saw the Royal College Contingent winning numerous awards before its conclusion on the 22nd of September, where the Royal College Cadet Band was announced the winners of the Major General T.I. Weerathunga RWP RSP Challenge Trophy.

The camp involved the participation of 25 Cadets from the Royal College Cadet Band as well as over 40 schools island wide, whereby more than 750 participants were present at the camp to compete for the Major General T.I. Weerathunga RWP RSP Challenge Trophy.

In addition to winning the overall Challenge Trophy, the Royal College Cadet Band were also given the honour of being placed first in the Directors Test & the Music Test evaluations, which was a clear reflection of the hard work put in by each and every member of the Cadet Band.

The leader of the Royal College Cadet Band, Sgt. De Zoysa A.K.D.S. showed no quarter and was an exemplary leader right throughout the preparations and during the camp, where he showed great leadership skills in moulding the Cadet Band to reach the ultimate objective, and his efforts were recognized and appreciated as he was awarded the Best Cadet Award, which is a mark of prestige in terms of the All – Island Western Cadet Band Competition.

The Royal College Cadet Band have been at the forefront of their game, with discipline and determination instilled within them over time, which proved to be of utmost importance, as the Victors brought home the trophy after 6 long years. Their efforts are not unnoticed and are greatly appreciated.
