The Royal College Inter House Athletics Meet which was concluded on the 25th of February saw a never before seen gathering to witness this years proceedings at the Sports Meet! The Chief Guest for the evening was Mr. Ranil Nawana, who is an esteemed old boy of this great institution!

The Athletics Meet which had a vibrant and a cheerful ending, saw the following Students and Houses getting placed in their respective events!

U – 12 age Group

Champion House –  Boake House
Best Performance – Nadun Bandara of Marsh House for Long Jump
Champion Athlete –  D. Kularatne of Boake House with 27 points.

U – 13 Age Group

Champion House –   Marsh House and Reed House
Best Performance – Lakshina Perera of Reed House for Long Jump.
Champion Athlete  – Tharindu Imesh of Reed house with 24 points.

U – 14 Age Group

Champion House –  Marsh House
Best Performance – Rohith Nawaraja of Boake House for the 100m sprint ( 12.6 seconds)
Champion Athlete –  Rohith Nawaraja of Boake House with 30 points.

U – 15 Age Group

Champion House –   Hartley House
Best Performance –  Kalana Srinath of Hartley House for the Discuss Throw
Champion Athlete –   Kalana Srinath of Hartley House with 27 points

U – 16 Age Group

Champion House –   Boake House
Best Performance –  Nadula Viranga of Reed House for Long Jump
Champion Athletes – M.N.M. Suleimaan of Reed House & E.P Gallage  of Boake House with 27 points each.

U – 17 Age Group

Champion House –  Boake House
Best Performance – Mohamed Aatheef of Hartley House for the Javelin Throw.
Champion Athlete –  Yeshan Manamperi of Boake House with 30 points

U – 19 Age Group

Champion House – Reed House
Best Performance – Chamika Karunaratne of Hartley House for the 100m sprint. (11.4 seconds)
Champion Athlete – Mithun Mihiranga of Marsh House with 30 points.

One of the most significant awards of the day with regards to the Athletics Meet in general, is the  U – 21 Champion Athlete award, and it was won by the Harward House Captain, Ramal Dayanaka.

The Royal College Athletics Captain, Chethaka Wijegunasinghe of Reed House, was awarded the U – 21 Best Performance award for his tremendous feat of achieving 53.73m in the Javelin Throw.

Mithun Mihiranga of Reed House will surely have a good future in Athletics, not only in school level but also afterwards, as he was awarded the prestigious “Most Promising Athlete” Award which was to the pleasure and delight of all Reed House Athletes.

The Decor of the Houses too were magnificent as Boake House took home the 1st place award for the best decorated House, while Reed House and Harward House followed in 2nd and 3rd place respectively!

The Relay Championship saw Reed house claiming the 1st place award while Boake House Claimed the 2nd place award, in a heated battle.

The March past which is one of the main highlights of the Annual Inter House Athletics Meet, saw Reed House being placed 1st while Boake House and Marsh House were placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The Atheltics Captain, Chethaka Wijegunasinghe was also awarded the Overall best Athlete award, in what would have surely been an unforgettable evening and an unforgettable year for him as the Athletics Captain.

The overall standing for the Champion House was as follows.
1st place – Reed House with 631 points
2nd place – Boake House with 600 points
3rd place – Marsh House with 570 points
4th place – Hartley House with 437 points
5th place – Harward House with 335 points

The evening ended with a bang with a vast number of colourful fireworks and an after party with a DJ and music. All in all, it was a joyous occasion for Athletes of Reed House and for everyone in general.

It would have surely been a emotional day filled with nostalgia for the Senior Games Master, Mr. M.T.A. Rauf, as it can possibly be his last Athletics Meet as the Senior Games Master as he will be retiring soon. Thank you sir for your service.
