The 163rd Prize Giving of Royal College took place on 10th of July 2014, at the College Navarangahala, where the occasion was graced by His Excellency the President Hon. Mahinda Rajapakse, along with the  Minister of Education Hon. Bandula Gunawardena.

The occasion saw the following guests of Honour being present at the Navarangahala as well.

The awarding ceremony commenced with the religious scriptures being read, followed by the singing of the School Song by the Choir of Royal College. After the School Song was sung, the Head Prefect, Nipuna Ambanpola delivered the welcome speech, where he mentioned that Royal College is a dream made out of sacrifices, hard work, perseverance, defeat and victory over thousands of Royalists’ past and present.

The prize distribution commenced with the welcome address concluding, where the first set of awards were read out by the Deputy Principal of the Primary Section, Madam C.L. Attygalle, with Mrs. Badra Shyamalee assisting with the second set of awards.

Upon the arrival of His Excellency the President, a welcome song was performed, followed by the presentation of the Report by the Principal, Mr. Upali Gunasekera, after which, His Excellency the President addressed the gathering.

Thereafter, the final set of prizes were read by Madam C.L. Attygalle and were awarded by His Excellency the President, where the moment of receiving a prestigious prize from His Excellency the President himself, was forged into the memories of the respective prize winners.

The vote of thanks was delivered by the Secretary of the Royal College Union, Mr. Chandana Aluthgama, where the gathering saw the continuation of a Tradition, with Mr. Aluthgama requesting His Excellency the President to declare the following day which is the 11th of July, a holiday for the students and staff of Royal College, to which His Excellency promptly responded by declaring the 11th of July a holiday for Royal College, much to the delight of the gathering in its entirety.

With the conclusion of the event after the National Anthem, the special invitees and the staff of Royal College were provided refreshments at the Main Hall.
