The much anticipated league decider kicked off at the Royal College Sports Complex on the 20th of June 2015, with Royal displaying classy rugby in terms of defense and attack. However it was clear that luck was definitely on our side as it can be attributed to the scoring opportunities which were capitalized.

The Royal College Sports Complex was packed as it should be on the eve of a rugby match between Royal College and Isipathana College. The first half of the game saw Royal College capitalizing on an opportunity with a 40m penalty by Ovin Askey within 8 minutes of the kick off, which put Royal in front by 3 points.

It soon became apparent that the game was a game of iron defenses. Each team fighting harder to get that all so important break, through the defensive wall. The Royal third row out did themselves in their defense. Proving to the world that a good defense is the best offense.

Isipathana immediately bounced back with a try through the right flank by Dilan Gallage. Which put them leading by 2 points. Conversion was unsuccessful.

Royal College was quick to respond by scoring a try instead of going through with a clear 20m penalty kick through their line out with Supun Waranakulasuriya driving the maul to the try line, but failing to convert the scoreboard in favour of Royal College, where it read 08-05 to Royal. Isipathana was thereafter, awarded a penalty which was successfully converted by Kongahawatte, which then put both teams on equal terms during the 23rd minute. Scoreboard read 08 – 08.

Much to the delight of all Royal fans, Umesh Madushan scoring a try with a pick and run but failing to convert. Soon after, being awarded another penalty and was successfully converted which put Royal in the lead at the half time break. At half time, scoreboard read 16 – 08 in favour of Royal.

The second half commenced as Isipathana kept charging but failed to score with the ball being 5m away from the try line. 57 minutes down the clock Royal once again successfully scored a try through the famous Royal rolling maul. Scoreboard read 21 – 08. The scores did not change since then till the final whistle, as Isipathana tried hard to gain points with less opportunity in possession. Royal showing brilliant control phase by phase through the second half giving Royal College a victory by receiving the Milroy Fernando Trophy and the league trophy for the year 2015.

A brilliant finish to a super match of an outstanding seasonal performance by the Royal College 1st xv team, who have now joined the ranks of a few to have achieved both the Bradby and unbeaten league champs.
