Felicitation of the unbeaten, Bradby winning 1st XV rugby team

The early morning at Royal College saw its colossal student body flocking at the main grounds before the J R Jayawardena Pavilion for yet another general assembly, the third for the year. It was soon 7.15 and the singing of the College anthem in unison by the thousands of young royalists gathered marked the beginning of this grand ceremony.

2015 saw an amazing rugby season, bringing back all trophies of encounters, the coveted Bradby Shield, the Micheal Gunaratne Trophy, the B C Anghie Trophy and the Milroy Fernando Trophy. The victory at the Singer League bringing back another trophy to College added that final bit of panache to mark a truly royal victorious season.

The august gathering witnessed the deserving rugby 1st XV team making their way to the stand to be given the glory they had truly earned. Despite the slight drizzle that attempted to disrupt the smooth flow of proceedings, the event went on to be quite successful, inspiring and motivation the team and all those behind this victorious season to hang on to this streak of excellence.

Further, significant achievements by all other sportsmen throughout the year were recognized during the assembly. This venture truly served its purpose of creating that enthusiasm and satisfaction within sportsmen as well as the elevation of recognition to the sporting arena at College.

The event ended with the Bradby winning Rugby Captain of the unbeaten team, raising his voice for a yell to the countless fellow students gathered at the occasion.

It is worthy to note that the two most prestigious Shields for sporting encounters, the Senanayake Shield for the Royal Thomian Cricket Encounter and the Bradby Shield for the Royal Trinity Rugby Encounter were reunited at Reid Avenue after a lapse of 20 years.
