The 71st annual cricket encounter between Royal College and Ananda College played for the L.D.H. Peiris Memorial Trophy was held on the 20th and the 21st of January 2017 at Ananda Mawatha

Ananda skipper Anjula Hettige won the toss and invited the Royalists to bat first. The boys from Reid Avenue were bowled out for 221 runs in 78 overs. Kavindu Madarasinghe (93) and Helitha Vithanage (46) were the top contributors.

Ananda who were 83/0 at stumps on day one managed to pile up 285/7 dec. in 58 overs. Royal vice-captain Himesh Ramanayake was the top wicket taker with figures of 3/71.

In reply Royal managed to score 154/5 in 45 overs at the end of the final day. Kavindu Madarasinghe (51*) scored another well deserving half century.

This performance saw the Royalists retaining the L.D.H Peiris Memorial Trophy for yet another year and it was presented to the Royal Skipper by Mr.Anushka Polonowita who captained Royal in 1996.
