On Friday, the 20th of October the United Nations clubs of Royal College together with the St.Bridget’s convent organized “Food republic 2017” at Green path, the 1st phase of “Coalition 2017” which was organized to raise funds for the 2nd phase of Coalition which is uplifting the standards of “Sithuminiwila prathamika Vidyalaya” in Hambanthota. For this worthy cause the 2 United Nations clubs presented the crowd with some mouth watering food stalls and music performed by a multitude of talented local performers and also a few fun and thrilling games.
The evening was kickstarted at 5.30 p.m by Dj- D tech who’s remixes were much admired by the crowd. This was followed by many Solo performances and Bands. Following the DJ was the brother and Sister duo “Balloons and Lollipops” which was followed by up and coming solo singers such as Ramali, Ama, DKM, and Pravin and Aerosh kept the crowd going with some tantalizing singing along with Pravin’s amazing beatboxing. The bands that kept the crowd going were Streamline, Amplifiers, Neptune, Gravity and Kryptic . Next up the Lunatics had the crowd going crazy with their tasteful remixes which was a highlight performance. Ryan Henderlin performing next amazed the crowd with his exceptional musical skills too. Coco performed a variety of English and Sinhala songs that got the crowd to sing along. The last 2 items for the evening was performed by the 13 year old Ashanya who’s performance stunned the entire crowd and The Third Sense ended the night with songs and some beatboxing to remember.
Apart from raising funds for the 2nd phase the main vision of Food republic was to serve the crowd with a variety of Food and Beverages as the attendees were certainly forced to make a choice of which food stall they were to approach. Starting from a Sri Lankan Achcharu stall, Rocco’s pizza, Rolling Pin, Cargills Hot Dogs ,Magic corn, Kottu and BBQ action station and bread talk presented some amazing food to satisfy the Savory cravings and also the Crowd was not left in thirst as Roots, Slush, Snow monkey and Bubblement kept the Crowd hydrated going late in the night.
Besides the Music and Food there was also a variety of games that the Committee had come up with . Hocus-Pocus ,Terror-Iffic, Bone Appetite, Ring toss and Knock em dead were the games that made Food republic an unforgettable night. The fact that all the above mentioned games were made and created by the Committee itself was truly incredible. That did not stop the people from enjoying themselves with the games as many people came and experienced the uniqueness of each and every game.
Organized by the members of the UN clubs to help and serve the under privileged community “Food Republic 2017” was an immense success as the crowd filled the entire street of Green path with a full house where all the funds generated will be used to put a smile on the faces of the children in the school in Hambanthota. All in all food and music combined to make “Food republic” an unforgettable night and the noble cause behind it made the event even more special.
