The Boys in Blue and Gold shall yet again grace the grounds of St. John’s College, Jaffna after a lapse of 48 years on the 24th and 25th of January 2014. This historic encounter between two of the oldest schools in the country will surely capture the attention of a large audience as it is also the first time the Royal College First XI cricket team returns to Jaffna after 34 years. Previously, the cricket team played a series of one day matches against a series of Jaffna schools in 1980.

The last time these two sides met was the year 2003, when the brave lads of the St. John’s First XI Cricket Team made the journey to Colombo to play a one day match, braving the repercussions of the war which separated the country at the time. The last test encounter played between the two schools was way back in the year 1966 when the Royal College First XI Cricket Team recorded an historic win in the North.

Thus after a period of 48 years, a rivalry shall be revived. So make your way to St. John’s College, Jaffna to watch a hotly contested cricket match between Royal and St. John’s and witness the re-birth of a beautiful rivalry.
