History and Background
Scrabble is a word game in which two to four players score points by forming words from individual lettered tiles on a game board marked with a 15-by-15 grid. The words are formed across and down in crossword fashion and must appear in a standard dictionary.
The Scrabble Club of Royal College was established in 1994 under the patronage and leadership of Mr.H.D.R.Hemachandra and Missaka Wasrusawithana respectively. It is the first Scrabble Club to be formed in a school in Sri Lanka.
The Scrabble team of Royal College is one of the most challenging in Sri Lanka. It is a notable fact that the Sri-Lankan team for W.Y.S.C has always consisted of at least one Royalist on each year since its initiation in 2006.
The vision of the Royal College Scrabble Club is to create a society which is more fluent in English and has excellent scrabbling skills.
The mission of the Royal College Scrabble Club is to improve and popularize the game of Scrabble, taking English as the main Medium both in the School and in the Community.
