S Thomas’ College wins by 16 runs

Danapala scores 64 runs to become best batsman of the side

Another much awaited day has finally dawned. However the Royal Thomian Limited Over Encounter for the 40th Mustang’s Trophy seems to have drawn lesser crowds than other years, though there were ample fans to liven the SSC grounds with the usual atmosphere of pomp and gaiety.

Having won the toss Royal elected to bowl first. Despite two early wickets that brought the Thomians down to 18-2, the boys from Mt Lavinia managed to display a strong retaliation going on to 277/6 by the end of the innings. Some brilliant bating was displayed by S Jayatilaka recording a half century within just 22 balls.

The Royal side faced an equally abrupt start as their openers fell out at 15/2. The Thomian bowlers managed to keep the game in their favour limiting the Royalists to 93/5 at the end of 26 overs. Some impressive performance by Randev managed to raise the score to 163/6, followed by equally promising batting by Thiran and Harith who managed to bring the side’s score to 257/8. The match ended with Royal scoring 261/8 at the end of 50 overs allowing the Thomians to retain the shield for yet another year.
