The Clubs and Societies Felicitation Ceremony, commonly known as the “Clubs Night” was held at the Royal College Navarangahala on Friday, the 6th of December by Mr. S.W.P. Mahanamahewa, The Dean, Faculty of Law, Kothalawala Defense University and Commissioner, Human Rights as Chief Guest. The night kicked off with a breath taking curtain raiser performed by the students of Royal College. The Curtain Raiser was a teaser performance, reflecting majority of the clubs and societies of Royal College. The Clubs Night was initiated in the year 2010 by the Prefects’ Council of 2009/2010, to recognize the sacrifice and tireless efforts of the students of Royal College engaged in co- curricular activities. The Clubs and Societies Felicitation Ceremony 2013 was organized by the Prefects’ Council 12/13.

The Clubs and Societies were graded into sections of C, B and A. The night was lit up by the performances forwarded and presented by the students of Royal College. The Clubs and Societies were graded respectively into their deserving categories with regard to the points and marks they obtained at a performance level and their conduct at the interviews. The Prefects’ Council of Royal College also intended to mould and encourage the future students of Royal College to work harder to achieve the goals of their clubs and to develop their leadership qualities to stand up in the world as stable future leaders. The first awards of the night were awarded to the C grade clubs. The clubs were awarded and the individuals in the clubs were recognized with a certificate for their commitment and tireless efforts. The organizing committee managed to keep the audience occupied by providing breath taking entertainment items, including an army dance in respect and acknowledgement for the chief guest, Mr. S.W.P. Mahanamahewa. An atmosphere of tension was noticeable in the air during the latter part of the event as the B grade clubs were recognized on stage. One by one as the respective clubs were called onto stage, the audience held their breath and rejoiced in victory cheers. After the awarding of the B grade category clubs and societies, the compeers very respectfully invited the management committee of Royal College together with the Chief Guest to the stage to give away awards to the clubs and societies that were graded A.
