A great end to the season! Royal College vs. Science College 1st XV Rugby
The game concluded on the 21st of June 2014, at the Science College grounds in Mt. Lavinia, where Royal were able to finish the season on a high, by beating Science College 38 – 15.
The game commenced with Royal kicking off, and scoring through the forwards who were at the top of their game once again. Skipper Nimshan Jayawardena was also performing at his best, as he managed to break through the line of defense and score and convert, bringing the score to 12 – 00 in favour of Royal.
However Science College managed to get back into the game with an unconverted try and a penalty, which bridged the gap, bringing the scores to 12 – 08, still in favour of Royal.
Feeling the heat, Centre Three Quarter Akash Iddawela managed to break through the line and score, to ease the pressure on the visiting team. At the halftime break, Royal were leading Science College by 17 points to 08.
With the start of the second half, Royal managed to regroup and score through the forwards, after which, skipper Nimshan Jayawardena managed to convert the try into a goal, bringing the scoreline to 24 – 08.
Science College had an organized moment, where they managed to score through a break off the Hooker, which was converted. The margin was reduced and the scores stood at 24 – 15.
The best ploy by the Royal Three Quarters saw the Skipper scoring near the corner flag, which went on to be converted by the skipper himself, after which, the final nail in the coffin was hammered, through hooker Supun Warnakulasooriya, who managed to dive over for a try. Scoreboard read 38 – 15 .
Not long after, the referee blew for full time, where Royal managed to finish off the season in style, with a comprehensive win over Science College. Full time score : 38 – 15 in favour of Royal.
