At the recently concluded 16th International Mathematical Competition (IMC) held in Chang Chun, China with the participation of 151 teams from around the world, the Sri Lankan team of 8 which included 3 royalists emerged victorious with flying colours. Our national team has been contesting at this competition for the past six years. This year saw an unparalleled victory for our nation as the team not only managed to outperform their predecessors but also a Sri Lankan managed to emerge as a gold medallist at this competition for the first time.

This first time Gold Medallist at this competition, Shenal Santhush is a student of Royal College Colombo who has displayed much talent in mathematics over the years, having previously achieved gold medals at all the younger age categories in international mathematics competitions. He is also the first Sri Lankan gold medallist at all three age categories in international mathematical Olympiad competitions.

Another student of Royal College, Sandil Ranasinghe was the bronze medallist at the Competition. In addition he was placed among the top 15 at the puzzle challenge contest which was held during the IMC. He too has exhibited much skill in the arena of mathematical Olympiad having emerged a medallist at numerous other competitions. He was also placed as a gold medallist previously at the international mathematical competition for the U-14 age category in 2013.
