Ranil Wijesekera Trophy retained for the 5th consecutive year
Royal College defeated their traditional rivals S.Thomas’ College at the 8th annual Royal Thomian badminton encounter held at the Royal College sports complex last Thursday (29th October).
The evening began with Royal College taking the upper hand at the beginning itself. The U 16 event saw the boy in blue and gold winning 2 singles and one double, thus managing to secure the title.
Soon tit was time for the much awaited U 20 event. The Thomians seemed to get back with their victory at the opening single, soon to be shunned off by the Royalists who came back winning the next two singles as well as the doubles match.
The doubles match saw Royal College’s captain Harindu Adikari alongside former captain Malith Kariyawasam beating the Thomian players Sandanidu de Silva and Rehan Wijesekara 21/12 and 21/15 in straight sets.
This is the 5th consecutive year that Royal College has won the Royal Thomian Badminton encounter.
