The Mini Battle is the annual cricket encounter played between the 2nd XI teams of Royal College and S. Thomas’ College prior to the Battle of the Blues. This year it was held on the 4th and the 5th of March at the S. Thomas’ College grounds.

The Royal skipper won the toss and invited the Thomians to bat first. Taking advantage of the familiar conditions, the Thomian camp managed to pile up a score of 335 runs for the fall of seven wickets. Sithara Hapuvinna and Pavith Rathnayake reached the half ton mark and their skipper, Ishen Perera managed to score a century when the Thomians decided to declare their innings.

The Royalists were called on to bat with 33 overs of play remaining when the Royal batting line up collapsed only to score 108 runs for the fall of seven wickets at the end of the first day.

On the second day Kavindu Madarasinghe’s fighting knock of 81 was not sufficient to save the Royal side from following on when they were all out for 183 runs, trailing by 149 runs behind the Thomians.

Following on, the Royal batting card collapsed once again when they only managed to score 171 runs in 40 overs leaving the opponents a target of 21 runs with a session of play remaining.Thomians reached the target in 3 overs and gained victory in the Mini Battle for the season.
