The annual prize giving ceremony of Royal College honoured the students who achieved academic excellence in the years 2014 and 2015. The event took place on the 16th of October at the Navarangahala under the patronage of his excellency the president of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena along with the Hon.Prime minister, minister, members of Parliament and other distinguished personalities.
The proceedings of the day started with the reading of sacred scriptures of all religions represented at Reid Avenue followed by the College song. The welcome address was given by the Head Prefect for the year 2017, Dinuka De Zoysa.
The first round of awards were presented by the Minister of Education, Hon.Akila Viraj Kariyawasam. Other major prizes were awarded by the Prime Minister Hon.Ranil Wikramasinghe upon his arrival.
His excellency the president entered the Navarangahala and was escorted to the hall by the Principal, Head Prefect and other members of the management committee.
The presentation of the College Report by Mr. B. A. Abeyratne took place soon after. Following this, his excellency the president Hon. Maithripala Sirisena addressed the gathering and spoke about various important topics in regard to the development of matters such as the present youth and discipline.
The vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of the Royal College Union and seconded by the Vice President respectively. Thus, concluding the 165th Prize Awarding Ceremony.
