A Step in the Right Direction: First Aid Workshop 2018
The Royal College Red Cross Society continuing on its 40 year long journey in community service inaugurated their first “Red Cross First Aid Workshop” which was open to all students interested in learning the principals of first aid. Organized by the Red Cross Society and assisted by the Royal College Doctors Association the workshop was successfully held on the 24th of May at the College Main Hall.
Assistance given to a sick or injured person until full medical treatment is available by a first responder was introduced as the gist of first aid. Under this context it was deemed essential that both students and adults have working knowledge on basic first aid concepts. The Society understanding and identifying a lack of this essential set of skills among students was quick to act and bring such an event to fruition.
The workshop commenced with a bit of theory which soon developed into a hands on simulation of CPR. The technical assistance was provided amongst others mainly by Dr. Manoj of the RCDA & guest Dr. Abeysinghe. This meritorious initiative came to an end being praised by many; another step in a long line of great things to come.
