2018 was a record year for Royal College as far as Royal-Thomian’s were concerned, as Royal managed to retain and win 11 of the 13 Royal-Thomian trophy events, which is the most trophies retained by either school in a single year.

These eleven trophies include the Dr. R. L. Hayman Trophy (Water Polo) which had been with our rivals for 5 years, and the Ranil Dias Memorial Trophy  (Sailing) which was won for the first time by Royal College after five years of defeat and The Micheal Gunaratne Trophy (Rugby) which was won by Royal College  with a record score of 55-00. Also the Inaugural encounter for the Dr.J. Gunasegaram Challenge Trophy (Swimming) was won by Royal College.

This record tally is missing the Orville Abeynaike Trophy for Hockey and the D. S. Senanayake memorial trophy for basketball, both with teams that eagerly await to repay the debt they owe to college when they face their rivals next season.

All Thirteen of these events were fought for, whilst displaying the true intensity of the Royal-Thomian rivalry, where both schools were forced to put everything they had, out on the battle field in order to emerge victorious. After another great Royal-Thomian season, we look forward to the next year, as both schools prepare to fight to bring back what they are missing and defend what they have.
