3rd of February 2019

Jointly organized by the Prefects Council of Royal College and the Royal College Group of 2009 since 2013, iLead 2019 had a number of memorable elements added to it in addition to the formality training and motivation. The main theme of this year’s iLead was “The Royal Standard.” The young Royalists were made to question within themselves what a person actually implied when relating himself to the word ‘Royalist.’ Then, they were made aware as to how these standards could be inculcated not only in their work regarding Clubs and Societies but also in their day to day life. With the Opening Ceremony commencing at 8.00 a.m., the day was filled with interactive, informative sessions which included sessions on the importance of proper documentation, planning out the year, event organizing and the sponsorship interview simulations, where the students are given a first hand practical experience on how to approach a sponsor.

Unique and inaugural to this year’s iLead was the introduction of a session specially designed to spread awareness about the importance of Royal Standards and a session regarding basic communication and everyday formalities. Topping off the uniqueness of iLead 2019 was a collaboration with the English Drama Society where a team of talented dramatists gave the basic idea of the importance of that specific educational session before that session was delivered, deeply engraving the teachings of the session in the minds of the students as well as making it a memorable learning experience. Quite welcome was the session which was delivered in collaboration with Mr. Asanga Peiris, the Secretary of the School Development Society. This session cleared many doubts which had taken refuge in the minds of the office bearers regarding how to carry out financial transactions with the School Development Society through having a Q&A session with a high ranking official from the SDS itself. There was also a guest performance by the Dancing Society of Royal College which added a refreshing aesthetic twist to the learning process.

The Main Hall transformed into a forum for sharing ideas and learning. Overall, this was a day filled with practical and technical knowledge as to how a student organization of Royal College should function. The office bearers definitely have more to learn with experience, but we believe that what they learned from iLead 2019 will help them carry their clubs forward for another successful year.
