Royal Badminton Beat Down S.Thomas’ for 8th Consecutive win.
The 12th Annual Royal Thomian Badminton Encounter saw Royal College emerge victorious for the 8th year in a row beating their rivals by 3 matches to 1 in the Under-20 encounter to retain the Ranil Wijesekera Memorial Challenge Trophy.
Results
- 1st Single – Kalana Kannangara (RC) beat Adeesh Peter (STC) – 21/13, 21/8,
- 2nd Single – Nilesh Wijesekera (RC) beat Lashan Mendis (STC) – 21/13, 21/12,
- 3rd Single – Yohan Perera (STC) beat Nethula Liyanage (RC) – 14/21, 19/21.
- 1st Double – Nilesh Wijesekera /Druvinka Perera (RC) beat Akila Peter/Lashan Mendis (STC).
The Royalists, Captained by Nethula Liyanage, and coached by Mr. Harsha Hettiarachchi & Mr. Mahesh Padmakumara maintained their dominant streak that began in 2012 against Lashan Mendis and his Thomian outfit.
Royal also won the under 17 categories 3 – 1, in a similar fashion to win the under 17 Shield.
The event organized by the Advisory and Management Committee of the RCU, was graced by several past players, invitees and parents, with former Royal Badminton Captain Mr. Dushy Perera being present as the Chief Guest, and Former Captain and National player Mr. Niranjan Wijesekera being the guest of honour.
