Colours Awarding Ceremony 2023
The Colours Awarding Ceremony for 2023 was successfully concluded on June 5, 2024, at the esteemed Nawarangahala. This annual College event, organized by the Prefects’ Council of Royal College, celebrates the achievements and dedication of the College’s young sportsmen. The theme for this year’s Colors Night was “Heritage,” paying homage to the rich sporting legacy of our alma mater.
The 2023 ceremony was led by the Deputy Head Prefect of Sports, Charaka Weerasinghe. The event was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Sriyan Cooray and Guest of Honor Mr. Jehan Mubarak, both distinguished alumni and former Coloursmen of the College, who shared their wisdom and experiences with the attendees.
Awards for International Representation were presented by the Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, and the Senior Management of the College.
The Maalyn Dias Scholarship for the Most Outstanding Emerging Sportsman was awarded by the Special Guest Mr. Sujeeva Cooray, an exemplary athlete excelling in Athletics, Cricket, and Rugby.
The Raba Gunasekara Memorial Fund Awards, recognizing the Youngest Athlete to be Awarded Colours, the Most Outstanding Athlete, the Youngest Rugby Football Player to be Awarded Colours, the Most Deserving Rugby Football Player, and the Most Outstanding Rugby Football Player, were presented by Special Guest Mr. Vipula Dharmadasa, a senior member of the 1978 rugby team, a member of the CR&FC team, and a former representative of the Sri Lankan Rugby Team.
The F. L. Thirimanne Memorial Prize for the Best Bowler was awarded by the Chief Guest.
The Jayakumar and Brothers Trophy for the Best Cadet Commander was presented by Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, former Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy, and Mrs. Sathyamoorthi, sister of Manik Jayakumar.
The Group Captain D. S. Wickramasinghe Memorial Trophy, awarded to sportsmen who have earned colours in three or more sports, was presented after a hiatus of five years by the Chief Guest during this year’s Colours Night.
This year’s Colours Awarding Ceremony not only recognized the remarkable achievements of our young sportsmen but also celebrated the enduring heritage of sportsmanship at Royal College.
