Buda Cumaratunga wins the Dornhorst Memorial Prize 2024
The Dornhorst Memorial Prize, awarded for general merit, has been awarded to Buda Cumaratunga for the year 2024. The prize is named in memory of the Ceylonese Barrister and King’s Advocate, the late Mr. Frederick Dornhorst, who is remembered as one of Royal’s greatest sons. All Royalists owe a debt of gratitude to this distinguished individual. The Prize is conferred based on an outstanding academic, extracurricular, co-curricular, and disciplinary record, as well as popularity within the school.
Buda obtained 9As at the O/L examination and has also been awarded multiple prizes in the Annual Prize Giving. He is a President’s Scout and served as an Instructor of the Royal College Scout Group. He was also a member of the 1st XI Cricket Squad. He displayed exceptional leadership qualities as the Chairman of the Western Music Society and Secretary of the Interact Club and prior to that as the Treasurer of the Western Music Society and the Community Service Director of the Interact Club. He was also a Senior Member of The Royal College Choir and Western Orchestra. Furthermore, he was a Senior Committee Member of The Battle of the Blues Souvenir Committee. He served as a Primary Prefect, Junior Prefect and Senior Steward highlighting his commitment to college.
