The LEO Club of Royal College was chartered in the latter end of 2020 under the guidance of Senior Games Master Mr. Riyaz Aluher and PDG Lion Dr Lasantha Gunawardena. In its short time here, it has thrived to fulfill its vision and mission of contributing to create a more rounded society.

The Leo Club of Royal College falls under the premises of Leo District 306 C2 and is sponsored by the Lions Club of Colombo Mid-City. Throughout the past months of establishment, the member base increased from a mere thirty to over an astonishing hundred and ten registered members. It had also received multiple national and international awards. The LEO club year for 2021/22 started on beginning of June and the projects we will be organizing will be vary to benefit diverse groups of people. The LEO Club of Royal College ensures to form a better world for everyone.

As a club that focuses largely on charity initiatives that require a large number of physical interactions, the Covid pandemic had affected the scope of the club severely. But we have found ways to adapt to the new paradigm as well as discovered ways to use the increase of online resources to the benefit of the Club.

This year, several of our projects revolved around the digital era, like “Forward Focused” a Career Guidance program to help the students in Sri Lanka to narrow down their choices the best options. We will also be launching an online blogging page and as spreading awareness regarding everyday disaster scenarios in a fun manner under the guise of a quiz. Furthermore, we would be widening our aspect to outside of school as well in projects such as “Novelist” where we act as a medium between aspiring writers and publishers to maximize opportunities or “Expanding the Family” an initiative to instigate LEO Clubs in other schools as well.

Another positive perk we received from the increase of online activities is the chance to strengthen our ties with International LEO Clubs through projects similar to “International Debate”. We would also be focusing a large proportion of the Clubs year towards charity and goodwill projects such as “Charity Week” or “Life of Giving” are large- budget projects that focus on aiding hundreds of individuals from orphanages, to elders’ homes, the crippled students, and individuals who are facing financial issues in their lives.

“LEO” stands for LEADERSHIP, EXPERIENCE and OPPORTUNITY and in the LEO Club of Royal College, its members will have a chance to work in multiple projects, either with the board or by themselves under supervision from the board. We would ensure that our members will be able to garner the experience and knowledge necessary to become a better person in society and take the club forward. Leo clubs encourage youths to develop leadership qualities by participating in social service activities.
