In the year 1955, the Royal College Islamic Society was established with the vision to create and establish a society in which efforts are made to promote harmony and wellbeing between Muslims and non-Muslims of Royal College. They also felt the need of bringing good Islamic qualities in the Muslim students and reward the Muslim students who had knowledge of Islamic principles.
The club year of the Islamic Society for the year 2021 began in the month of January 2020. We, as the Islamic Society of Royal College, plan to carry out many successful projects to take our club to greater heights.
For many years, the Islamic Society has been conducting four major annual projects. The projects are as follows:

Similar to the previous years, during the 1st phase we will donate dry rations to the underprivileged who live in Colombo and its suburbs. As we all know, there are many people living in Colombo who struggle every day to make a living. The current situation in the country caused by the COVID-19 outbreak has only made the lives of the people even more challenging. During the 2nd phase, the committee will visit an orphanage and donate stationery items, books, pen, pencil and etc. The funds will be collected through sponsors. We also have planned to provide lunch for the orphaned children on that day and afterwards we will spend some time with them by conducting fun activities. During the 3rd phase the committee will visit an elder’s home and we will donate some essentials and afterwards we will spend some time with them by conducting fun activities. During the 4th phase the committee will visit a rural village and will help to set up a few water lines for a few families who are deprived of such facilities and struggle without the facilities.
Next, we will move on to carryout a sub project named “Salam”, A religious leader will be brought to talk and discuss about the faith of Islam and afterwards will have a Question and answer session which will be open to the those present. Through this project we intend to portray the right picture of Islam and promote the idea that Islam is a religion of peace. During this event, the prize winners of the Annual Inter-Grade, Inter-School and Inter-House competitions are awarded. Furthermore, the Muslim students of Royal College are given an opportunity and platform to perform and showcase their talents on this day. In other words, the Islamic day is the day of the year reserved for Muslim community at College.
