The Debaters’ Council of Royal College is a representative club in college. Throughout the years we have established ourselves as the premier English Debating club in the island by winning a multicity of All-Island debating tournaments.
For the year 2021 the main project we plan to carry out is “Tournament Representation”, in which we represent college in all the all-island debating tournaments organized by other schools and institution in Sri Lanka. Nextly we plan to carry out our annual project “Legacy”, in which we train the young debaters from grades 6 to 11 who will be the future of Royal debating. This project is carried out throughout the year.
To find the hidden talents in debating in students from grades 6 to 10, we annually carry out the “Inter-House Debating Championship” which we plan to carry out in March. Nextly to improve the skills in debating we in the debaters council will carry out Joint Practices with other debating teams from other schools.
For the second half of the year we have planned to carry out our inter- school all-island competition namely, “The Vijitha Weerasinghe Memorial Debating Championship” which we once again plan to carry out online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
For the latter part of the year we plan to start our project “Young Minds Matter”, in which we plan to train the students from grades 4 and 5. After this initial training we plan to carry out the “Primary Inter-House Debating Championship” which is a new initiative that will be carried out by the club. We also plan to carry out a Debating workshop for the students in the hostel to improve their English-speaking skills.
All in all, we plan to carry out multiple highly successful projects and do our best in once again bringing glory to college by championing the debating circuit of Sri Lanka.
