Royal College took on Trinity College on the 4th and 5th of March for a much awaited home game. Trinity Skipper called it right at the toss and invited the royalists to bat. Ashen Gamage and Isiwara DIssanayake started well but could not convert, Dissanayake was caught behind off Pasan Kulathunga on 07, and a few overs later Gamage was caught off Theeraka Ranathunga at square leg on 22. This is when Royal Captain Ahan Wickramasinghe walked in and Joined Sadisha Rajapaksha at the crease. Both these batsman went on to get their hundreds in quick time, the batting didn’t stop there, Royal went on to make 350 runs for the loss of just 4 wickets and the declaration was nearing. Both Ahan and Sadisha shifted gears and started scoring fast, Ahan got to his 200 in no time and Sadisha got to his 150, ending a partnership of 362* which went into history books as the highest partnership for any wickets in schools cricket. Coach Jehan Mubarak then called them in declaring at 403 for 4.
Trinity College walked out positive but failed to get starts, Umair Raizan was caught behind for just 2 runs, and the collapse began. Thevin Amarasinghe went on to make 44, the highest score for Trinity in the 1st innings and was ultimately bowled by spin wizard Gishan Balasooriya who went on to get a fifer. Trinity made a below average 133 before being bowled out. All the Royal bowlers picked in with wickets showing Skipper Ahan he has all the bowling options.
Trinity was forced to follow on, but the Royal bowlers were spot on. Wickets fell and very regular intervals giving Royal hope of an easy win. Both openers walked back in the first two overs, and number 3 Abishek made 13. Pawan Pathiraja kept the ship from sinking with some commendable stroke play and went on to score 76, taking Trinity to 113 for 6 when the Umpires called the game off for bad light. Balasooriya started for Royal with the the ball once again with 3 for 44. A very historical game of cricket ended with hand shakes as usual and the Prize presentation ceremony concluded the day.
