2nd leg ends in draw as Thomians retain Hayman Trophy

The 2nd leg of the annual Royal Thomain Water Polo Encounter for the Dr. R. L. Hayman Trophy ended last Saturday with the Thomians’ fortune holding on. After a intense game ending in draw, Royal College saw the coveted Trophy go back to Mt Lavinia for yet another year.
The evening started with the conclusion of the U 15 encounter which featured a complete turning of tables as the Royal side managed to dominate the waters after a loss of 8 (RC) – 10 (STC) at the 1st leg. The game ended at 13 (RC) – 9 (STC) with the Royal side displaying some exceptional performance. The aggregate score for the encounter stood at 21 (RC) – 19 (STC) with Royal emerging victorious.
As the U 19 encounter kicked off, the first quarter unfurled quite similarly to its counterpart the prior week, ending in the same scores of 1 (RC) – 4 (STC). The Thomains continued with their domination as they scored once more in the next quarter. Royal made their first breakthrough in the quarter followed by another shoot at the goal giving tougher competition to move for a helpful 3 (RC) – 5 (STC).
The 3rd quarter saw both teams scoring equally with the scores being raised to 4 (RC) – 6 (STC). Royal still seemed to be in the bottom end as the final quarter ticked off. An early goal gave an upper hand to Royal, as they continued to display dominance and give hope to the fans raising the score to a joyous 7 (RC) – 6 (STC). The Thomians put to one uncomfortable position finally managed to even the scoreboard with the last goal for the game, ending play at 7 (RC) – 7 (STC).
Thus, the evening came to an end with S Thomas’ taking home the prestigious Dr. R. L. Hayman Trophy for the 24th Royal Thomians Water Polo Encounter.
