Royal Shooters dominate retaining Albert Edirisinghe Challenge Trophy
Victorious against Mahinda College, Galle scoring 2-0.
Friday, the 23rd October saw the teams of Royal College, Colombo lead by Tahiru Gunasekara and Mahinda College, Galle lead by Akeesha Deemantha in an intense battle at the 1st leg of the football encounter for the Albert Edirisinghe Challenge Trophy for the 21st year at the historic Racecourse Grounds.
The tournament was inaugurated in the year 1984. Royal College currently leads the tally with 18 wins against a mere two wins by Mahinda College. The prestigious trophy is named after Mr. Albert Edirisinghe, the founder of Albert Edirisinghe Opticians and an old boy of Mahinda College, Galle. His sons Mr. Gamini Edirisinghe and Mr. Janaka Edirisinghe are both alumni of Royal College.
The first leg of the encounter ended with a victory for Royal College after a score of 2 – 0. Naveen Jude scored a goal each in both halves of the match.
The second leg of the encounter will take place on the 7th of November at the Mahinda College grounds.
