FOOTBALL ENCOUNTER ends in score of 2 (Royal) – 0 (S Thomas).

The 22nd Royal Thomian football encounter also known as the Blue Derby kicked off on the 31st of October at the Big Club Grounds, S Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia. The opening whistle was blown at 4pm.

Both teams fought really hard to keep possession in the first half which saw Royal striker Naveen Jude Nicholas scoring a powerful goal towards the top corner of the goal post. The Thomian side who were well known for their set pieces found it extremely difficult to get past the solid Royal defense and an in form Goalkeeper  Mustaq Ramzee.

The boys Reid Avenue dominated the possession in the second half while Naveen Jude took yet another shot at Goal but was denied by the cross bar. After receiving a penalty due to a faul in the Thomian box, Chathura Avishke took a shot which sadly went off target. In the latter part of the second half Royals right wing Omila Vidanage produced a beauty of a cross from the corner of the pitch which saw Naveen Jude finishing the ball with a header into the goal which sealed the 22nd Blue Derby Encounter with a score of 2-0 in favor of Royal College.
