Club year for the Royal College Astronomical Society for 2020/2021 began on the 20th February 2021. As the Royal College Astronomical Society, we plan to carry out many successful projects that uphold the name and the legacy of our society. We intend to do our projects focusing on the five major components of Astronomy, namely General Astronomy, Observational Astronomy, Astrophysics, Cosmology and Rocketry.

Due to Covid – 19 pandemic, we intend to carry out our projects via online platforms. We started our club year with a main project ‘Beyond the Sky’, a weekly lecture series on the topics under Astronomy conduct by our quiz team members and ‘Social Sky’, where we share a post on newly updated news and details concerning astronomy.

For the first quarter, we plan to conduct a quiz to select new members for the Team-C of the quiz team. Afterwards, we plan to do a lecture regarding Sun Spots. Namely those projects are Orion and Celestron respectively.

For the second quarter, we plan to carry an open school online forum called Synergy and an e-magazine based on the creations of our members named Cosmos. We plan to launch our official website on the Royal College Astronomical Society under the project Pandora.

For the third quarter of the club year, we plan to execute one of our major projects called Artemis, an Asteroid search campaign conducted by the International Astronomical Search Collaboration and an educational lecture for the grade 8-9 students according to their syllabus under the project Apollo. Also, we plan to design and build a Martian rover in the inspiration of the perseverance rover with the support of the Astronomical Society of Colombo University and to conduct a water rocket design campaign which includes a lecture and a competition in the project Impulse.

For the final quarter, we plan to do a collaborative project between the Astronomical Societies of Royal College and Sirimavo Bandaranayaka Vidyalaya under the project Zero Gravity and an innovative project which focused on the development of skills and creativity of our younger members in the society under the name of Vision Scorpio. And finally, the annual night camp our society, Stella Infinitum will be done virtually with a new outlook.

All in all, the club plans to carry out a multiplicity of highly successful projects hoping to uphold the reputation of the Royal College Astronomical Society.
