The Royal College Buddhist Brotherhood, established with the motive of enlightening the student population of Royal College with the ways of Buddhism, has been carrying out its duties since 1955. Since its inception, the club has also focused on building up the unity among the students of college along with developing their spiritual values. The Royal College Buddhist Brotherhood believes that discipline plays a major role when it comes to achieving their mission; In light of this, the club engages in various activities in hopes of improving it.
Religion plays a major role when shaping a good citizen; It helps to instill discipline, self-esteem and other similar qualities. These qualities and characteristics are aspects that a harmonious society consists of. With regards to this, it is clear that religion is important for a person to better themselves.
The club’s vision, “Nothing equals wisdom” reflects upon the objectives of the projects that are being conducted as the Royal College Buddhist Brotherhood intends to instill them onto the students. These projects, considered by many, are a way of assisting the Buddhist students of college to uphold their faith and to be more in touch with their religion. The Buddhist Brotherhood believes that these projects and activities along with the others that are done throughout the year, are able to affect the making of a well-rounded person and that it helps to elevate the spiritual well-being of the students.
The determination and the work ethic of the Royal College Buddhist Brotherhood is evident in its rich history. This club has managed to raise many erudite individuals since its beginning and it will continue to do so for many decades to come.
The Annual Dalada Muluthenge Poojawa
Annually, Buddhist Brotherhood along with the school administration and authorities conduct and organize “The Annual Dalada Muluthenge Poojawa” at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy with utmost veneration and respect. In the ancient times, the rulers of the country used to pay their respect to this sacred relic of Gautama Lord Buddha by conducting this ritual.
The Daily Buddha Poojawa
The Daily Buddha Poojawa is held in veneration and respect to The Most Supreme, Gautama Lord Buddha. It is considered as one of the main projects of the club and another prominent programme which is conducted as a daily event. Having been continued for over 30 years, it takes a special place and stands tall in the Buddhist Brotherhood calendar.
Sadaham Sisilasa Poya Day Dhamma Sermon
To commemorate the monthly full moon poya day, The Buddhist Brotherhood conducts and organizes Dhamma Sermon sessions to each and every Buddhist student obtaining education from our college.

Rajakeeya Abhiwandhana Vesak Celebrations
“Rajakeeya Abhiwandhana” is a way to inculcate the Buddhist philosophy in the minds of the school children. This annual event helps us to spread the message of Vesak to the citizens of our country and to display the beauty of it. The event consists of different sub- projects such as the ‘Bakti Gee’ program, the ‘Annual Sil’ program, Dhamma Sermons along with a few others. As a part of Rajakeeya Abhiwandhana we also sell vesak cards to students to spread the joy of the magnificent festival.

‘The Buddhist Way’ Magazine
‘The Buddhist Way’, a magazine published with the goal of commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Royal College Buddhist Brotherhood and to reflect upon the 186 years of golden history of our Alma Mater. The magazine was revived after 35 years in 2020 with the intention of carrying out the tradition. The magazine is considered as a way to relive and to rejoice in our achievements as a club.
Sankalpana
‘Sankalpana’21’ is an event organized with purpose of felicitating the winners of a competition where students are given categories to take part in. The competitions are namely; Essay, Art, Poetry, a quiz and a ‘padya gayana’ competition.
Rajakeeya Poson Udanaya
Annually we organize Dhamma sermons, meditation programs, alms giving programs and Pirith chanting ceremonies within our school premises for all the youngsters receiving education as a haul mark to commemorate the significance of Poson Full Moon Poya Day. This year the organizing committee held a “Bhakthi Gee Ceremony” with the involvement of Grade 6 students, teachers of the middle school and members of Buddhist Brotherhood.

Pannya Udapadhi – Dhamma Discussion
Pannya Udhapadhi is conducted under the theme “ Nothing equals to wisdom” which was one of the main preachings of Lord Buddha. During the course of the project we address the questions students have about Dhamma. As a haul mark to this project a Dhamma Discussion was held with the participation of Ven Kurunagala Rohanakiththi Swaminwahanse, Ven Dematagoda Anomadassi Swaminwahanse and Mr Gayan Chanuka Vidanapathirana and with the presentation of Mr Tharanga Prasad Herath. It was telecasted on Siyatha TV on the 22nd of August 2021.
