Founded in 1934 as the Photographic Art Society of Royal College, it later changed the name to Royal College Photographic Society. However, for a decade since 1954 the society was temporarily inactive. After beginning anew in the year 1964 The Photographic Society was able to organize the first Inter-school Photographic Exhibition in Sri Lanka.
