Founded in 1934 as the Photographic Art Society of Royal College, it later changed the name to Royal College Photographic Society. However, for a decade since 1954 the society was temporarily inactive. After beginning anew in the year 1964 The Photographic Society was able to organize the first Inter-school Photographic Exhibition in Sri Lanka. Since that day onwards the Photographic Society has served College in the field of photography by attracting young enthusiasts and providing opportunities as well as by providing coverage to major events within the school calendar.
