The year of 2020/2021 of the Sinhala Oratory and Debating Society began in February 2020. We are planning to implement many successful projects by establishing the name of the Royal College’s Sinhala Oratory and Debating Society on the social network .We plan to do most of our projects online due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Launched the “Waag” speech competition for the first quarter, improving the speaking skills of Royal College Grade 6 to 11 students.

Also, launched an Oratory and Debating Training throughout the year , the Royalists Oratory and Debate League, called “Vijanana”, have been actived in a new format, providing newcomers with an experience of debates as well as an understanding of competition. Arrangements have been made to launch a workshop on oratory from. The “Model Parliament” project will also provide a new experience of a live Parliament.
Next, we plan to launch a workshop to teach beginners from the basics about the field of oratory and debating , entitled “The Beginning of a Parade”. “Friendly Debates” will be our next project to develop friendships with schools in the field of debating.

The “Inter-Class” Debating Tournament will also be held to showcase the royals’ prowess on the field. Students from Year 6 to Year 11 can participate in it. The “Thirasara”, the largest All Island Inter-School Debating Tournament held in recent times, will also be held in this quarter. Arrangements have been made to launch the project in collaboration with Royal College, Colombo, Pioneers Youth and several other schools in the country. The third quarter will feature an “Inter-House competition” featuring students from Royal Colleges’ Boake, Hartley, Marsh, Reed and Harvard houses.

Next, the largest All Island Inter-School Debating Competition of the Year to be held by the Royal College Sinhala Oratory and Debating Society will also be held under the third quarter. It will be held with the participation of number of schools. Under the final quarter, the “Danuma Mawatha” project will be launched, which will provide knowledge on how to find points in a debate and how to formulate points in a debate.

The final project is to launch the “Piwisuma” project, which will identify schools that are not in the field of debating, provide them with the knowledge of debating and lay the foundations for the formation of debating groups in those schools.

Overall misson of the Royal College Sinhala Oratory and Debating Society hopes to shine the Royal name in gold by providing a significant contribution to the field of oratory and debating amongst all the schools.
