Royal College Western Band was formed and established in 1961 as the college band under the Western Music Society. It was launched with the main purpose of representing the college on numerous occasions. It is the oldest band at Royal College. The band was advanced from swing instruments to brass instruments in the later ’90s. From the beginning, events such as musical programmes and musical evenings were organized.
Performing at the main college events, organizing and participating to the musical events representing the college are a few of the main activities currently carried out by the band, which includes performing at the Bradby Shield, one of the significant events of Royal College. It is always functioning with the vision of serving the college and improving the personalities of its members up to royal standards.
The member base of the band consists of students from middle school and upper school. Some of the principle intentions of the Western Band with regard to the members are advancing self-discipline, developing optimistic qualities and personality, developing leadership qualities, enhancing mental and physical fitness and lifting the musical skills. All the members are getting in-depth music training and marching exercises.
It will be 60 years since its establishment for the year 2021 and is continuing its musical legacy by uplifting the college standards and moulding the lives of young Royalists.
