The tiny village of Hikkim is known for being home to the highest post office of the world. Hikkim is a village in Lahaul and spiti district of Himachla Pradesh State in northern India. It is near to the kaza location and it is 4400m above sea level.

Hikkim post office functioning from 5th of November 1983 with a pin code of 172114 and it s run by post master Rinchen Chhering. The post office serves the 150 odd villages of Hikkim. It remains closed six months of the year, as winter snow blankets the valley. Other six months that it runs to mail delivery runners connect Hikkim to Kaza making the journey every morning.

Mail is sent on foot by two post men from Hikkim to Kaza which is then taken to Reckongpeo by bus, onward to Shimla, then loaded on a train to Kalka and loaded again on a bus to Delhi, from there the mails make their journey towards its destination.
