Introduced to Sri Lanka in 1990, Carrom found its way to Sri Lankan schools in 2000 when the Royal College produced its first team.

In 2003, the Education Ministry held the inaugural Inter-school Carrom Championship and Royal College emerged champions. The excitement swelled when, in the same year, a player from the College defeated the best school player in Malaysia.

The All-Island Singles Carrom Championship organized by the Schools Carrom Association in 2007 changed the path of Royal College Carrom. The school became overall runners-up clinching the Under-13 singles championship, Under-13 overall championship, Under-13 best player, Under-17 runner-up, and Under-17 overall championship.

Since 2007 Royal College Carrom team has experienced many victories, including winning the under 19 All-Island Carrom Championship many times while producing brilliant all-rounders such as Mohamed Shaheed, Anas Ahamed, and Manuka Ashen.
