Fencing was first introduced at Royal College in 1914 on a small scale, with only six boys participating—those who could afford the sport at the time. However, due to the dangerous nature of fencing and the lack of proper protective equipment, Principal Mr. Charles Hartley decided to discontinue the activity, bringing an early end to its initial run at the College.

In 2008, the National Association of Fencing helped formally establish the sport in Sri Lanka by providing proper equipment and licensed coaches. Seven years later, in 2015, fencing was reintroduced at Royal College. Since its revival, the sport has seen great success at the school, with the College fencing team emerging as champions at the Sri Lanka Junior National Fencing Championship in the past year, and achieving runner-up positions in both 2017 and 2018.
