Table Tennis is one of the oldest sports of Royal College, runs back to 1942 (History of Royal College by Mr S.S. Perera). Since then, sports have been in competition and Royal College teams are in forefront of the events. Many other sportsmen use Table tennis as a sport to develop mental strength by taking part table tennis.

D.B. Gunasekera, S.S Kumar, Ranjan Madugalle, Rajiva Wijethunga Ramesh De Silva some of them who went to excel in cricket, played Table Tennis for College. Royal college always a top contender among Sri Lanka schools tournaments are played under various age groups, under 10,12,14,16,18, 19 and under 20. The pinnacle of the year is the National School Games (NSG ) where it competes under 18 and under 20. It starts with province-level. The top three teams compete in the All Island tournament.

In the nineteen sixties The Royal Thomian encounter was played for the Salgado Shield and subsequently discontinued. During the last fifty years college has improved the playing facilitates tremendously. In nineteen seventies players used to practice in the old gymnasium located in the main grounds sharing with Badminton teams. Subsequently, in the late eighties school authorities allocated science laboratory in the present grade ten building to relocate the Table Tennis.Many students were enrolling to Table tennis which seemed inadequate and authorities were generous to convert the adjourning laboratory too for table tennis practices.

The Annual Table Tennis Inter-house tournament organized is also a very prominent inter house event in the sporting calendar of college. It has had a very rich history of being one of the most successful inter house events taken place over the years with a staggering number of participants gathering together every year to make this event a resounding success
